No Mike. It's a closed loop system. when the oil pump stops with the engine shut off, oil stays in the filter and in the oil lines. Pressurized oil from the next engine start will begin the circulation all over again. A dry start can only happen if your oil pan is empty, and there is no oil to be picked up by the oil pump.

I don't know it they sell it in the states because I bought it here in Thailand. It's about 1/4 inch thick with foil on one side and white foam on the other. Here it was advertised as for putting on top of ceiling tiles in dropped ceilings the kid you can push up and move around. It was cheap about $5.00 for about twenty sheets.

Using a simple ball valve works fine just turn it off in the summer and on in the winter. If you check the freak site there are some old posts on people doing it. It's very simple buy a valve cut either of the lines and install with new clamps

I forgot the last part of your question. Extreme cold won't cause a problem with the trans cooler, but it will add a minute or two to the time it takes for the trans to warm up in the cold. Once the car is up to operating temperature, the thermostat will stay farther open, and stay open longer, than it would without the trans cooler. The reason for having the cooler is that it reduces trans heat in hot weather, and by doing that, also reduces engine heat to an extent. Just about all A/T cars have a trans cooler already, but they just aren't big enough to do the complete job and keep the trans cool enough in high ambient temps.

I just got an email ad from autopartswarehouse.com, and looked up trans coolers. B&M is one of the best brands of coolers, and this vendor shows several models for the Fit. Some of the expensive ones have electric fans mounted to the cooler, but we don't have enough space to hold the fan models. If you mount the basic cooler in an area with a lot of air flow, like in front of the radiator, the fan is not necessary. Installation is simple. Cost is around $100.00.

jcwhitney.com carries several universal fit trans coolers, but Amazon is also an excellent source for car parts. If you find a brand and model that looks good to you, then see if you can find a better deal for the same one on EbayMotors. You're welcome for the advice, and please post on the forums any helpful info. you find on the trans coolers.

Congrats on the T/C. Sorry that it arrived with the 11" of snow! Hey! I'll bet that the ECO settings that slow down the throttle response will help you ease out of an icy parking spot and lessen spinning of the front wheels. When you get this installed, you will have more winter weather to still deal with. If I am right about the ECO Mode benefits in snow and ice, let the forum members know. You will find that you have made a good purchase.
