i am looking for sheepskin seat covers. basically an insert. the interior of my new fit is black. i am blonde. i have a light brown, long haired dog. bottom line. the black may not work too well, so i was thinking just the sheepswool insert. would like faux because of the chance of it smelling badly. anyone know where to get these? without spending a fortune? or getting them from new zealand?

I have used Costco Sheepskin seat covers in two Fits. These are real sheepskin with no smell whatsoever on the seat and seatback surfaces with synthetic wool fabric on the backs of the seatbacks and on the sides of the seat bottoms. Elastic straps inside the covers hold them securely, and they are split on the outsides of the seatbacks to allow the side airbags to deploy in a side collision. I used these for two years on my '07 Sport, and retrieved them when it was wrecked and now have them on my '09 Sport. I vacuum them about once a month, and they still look brand new. The hair from my Siberian Husky (Black/white/grey) and my Wolf Hybrid (white/cinnamon/black) is no problem at all- it does not stick to the wool as long as you vacuum as necessary. These are made from New Zealand wool that has been tanned properly. Even with occasional spills, I have not experienced any bad odors over the last four years, and all seam stitching is like new.

I bought these inside my local Costco store, and they cost about $35.00 per seat. I don't know if you will find them in your local Costco, but if you do and find that you don't like them once you get them home, your store will refund your money if you return the seat covers.

Another, more expensive alternative would be the seat covers (Clazzio?) carried by Zeta Products, or the Neoprene seat covers from CoverKing who sells through the Costco web site. You will find a favorable review of the CoverKing Neoprene seat covers in the Interior forum on this site.

And you are right- the black color and lint grabbing cloth of the stock Fit seats will get you upset pretty quickly.

Speaking as someone who used to work autoparts, the real ones are definitely the way to go. The fake ones shed worse than a dog with the mange, and aren't nearly as soft as real ones.

I have one on the drivers seat of my car like Manxman described and a pair of very luxurious long wool seat area covers on my wife's Forester. I will be getting the same as is on the Forester eventually, they without a doubt are the ultimate way to go if comfort is a priority to you.

Like the ads for good sheepskin covers say, "They keep you warm in winter and cool in summer". With minimal care, they look good for years and years.
