I want to remove the "FIT" emblem from the rear of my 2010 model and replace it with the blue dot emblem from the 07-08 model. What is the best way to remove the emblem? Will it come off easily with a hair dryer as I saw in one post? I do not want to damage the finish.
Will the adhesive on the back of the blue dot emblem be sufficient to stick to the car?

Thanks

I have not tried to remove any small emblems or badges from painted car surfaces, but I did have to remove some side moldings. Posters on car forums who suggested using dental floss to saw the adhesive away from the paint were dead wrong. It took 30 lb. fishing line to cut the adhesive without breaking- dental floss would break instantly. But that was for wide side moldings.

I will bet that for the Fit emblem, a hair dryer will not harm the paint if you are patient in heating the emblem, and pry it loose from one end gently, while you continue to warm the rest of the emblem a little at a time as you keep pulling on the loosened end.

If you have bought a new blue dot emblem, the adhesive on it will work fine. It is the same adhesive that was used for the plain chrome emblem that you are removing from your new Fit. I have been meaning to replace the emblem on my '09 BBP, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I ordered a "fit" logo (used) with the blue dot too. just got my 2010 and plan to replace the emblem as well. I also ordered the "jazz" emblem that came with a red dot. Thought I'd put the 'jazz' and use the blue dot. just noticed there is a line scratched through my jazz emblem. it is supposed to be brand new. didn't pay much. good thing because i don't think it will fit. it may be too wide. but i have the 'fit' emblem and do plan on changing that out. thinking i'll have a body shop do it so it's straight. i am an older woman and really don't have the where with all to do it well. i did, however change out the keyboard on my blackberry, so i am capable of some stuff. haha.

Hi Charlie-- I am a woman as well , I am pretty good with this sort of thing, if I don't get too impatient and take my time doing to it the correct way. Changing a keyboard on a blackberry is quite a feat or should I say fit?

My Fit better arrive this week..... My dealer had to trade with another dealer and both Fits are coming over from Japan. It is already 2 weeks late.
What color is yours? I am getting a Tidewater Blue which is hard to find around here.

I ordered a Jazz emblem online, as well it is supposed to be new with a silver dot which I plan to paint metallic blue to match the "Fit" emblem. I could not locate a jazz emblem with the blue dot anywhere.

I removed mine using the dental floss method. It just takes a bit of patience. Don't saw with the floss just get it started under the emblem then pull on it if it stops just stop for a second and hold the pressure on it and in a bit it will move some more as the glue pulls apart. If you are careful you can use a slim screwdriver to help it along just be careful not to dig the screwdriver point into the paint.

Then if you are going to run naked without a new emblem you will need some solvent to get rid of the glue. A lot of people have used "goo be gone" and I had good luck with lacquer paint thinner but use anything sparingly don't let it be like a liquid and run down the paint. A little goes a long way and once you rub on the glue turn the rag you are using to a clean spot as it collects the glue.

susan, if you order the fit logo with the blue dot. they are not attached and you can just switch them out. that's what i did because i couldn't find the jazz with blue. i have never seen a fit with a red dot, so i may just use that one. my fit is white...just like the last one. i had to wait weeks too because i wanted a manual transmission. but like i said, i am thinking the jazz emblem is one letter too long for the 2010 fit. i'll have to look again. how silly that so many of us are all about the blue dot. that should tell them something. claymore: that entire process makes me nervous. i also heard a hair dryer helps...but i think i'd rather pay to have someone with a steady hand and insurance do it.

My plan was to replace the newer Fit emblem with the old style on the left side and have the Jazz on the right rear side (both with blue dots). If it looks dumb, I will put only the jazz emblem on. I have removed stickers before from my Yamaha Vino using a hair dryer and it works quite well.

The story behind the colored dots and the location of the emblems is this: blue denotes a VTEC engine red is for the other one. For right hand drive the emblem in on the right left hand drive on the left. Now you know the rest of the story.

My Fit emblem came off pretty easy after the car sat in the sunny parking lot all day

Much better

I used two products AFTER allowing car to sit in sun all day , or you can heat it a bit yourself.

waxed dental floss is how I got it off , along with Goo Gone.

I sprayed all around emblem with goo gone and went at it with the floss, keeping floss as close to car surface as i could and used a back and forth sawing motion. it didn't hurt to pry up on it every now and then either ;), once u can get a finger behind the edge that is. work your way across till the emblem comes off.

next I used goo gone, a microfiber towel and lots of elbow grease. you may find simply pushing it real hard with fingers will work too. once u get what is left of the black foam backing the thin stuff came off easy.

and not a scratch was made to the painted surface.

clean up good with goo gone and then be sure to clean up the goo gone with alcohol then apply new badge.

a tip if placement is of concern to you, mark off around the original badge with auto masking tape. hell regular old scotch tape will do the same trick , this way you can place the badge in the exact same place :D

hope this helps, peace 8)

I'll try the tips this weekend.

I really enjoy DIY. Saves me cash.
