The K&N won't filter as well as a stock paper filter, and it won't give you any hp gains or any better mpg. But if you have to throw away $35.00, it probably won't hurt anything either. I had one for my '07, so I know.

Well if you are talking about the drop in replacement for the stock one I had good luck with mine and even if you can't feel any change the one good thing is you never have to buy another filter again just wash it out re-oil it and your on your way.
I like them so much every car I have had since 1968 has had a K&N air filter installed. But beware of their short ram for the Fit it doesn't Fit very well.

$35.00 is the general price range of the drop-in K&N filter, but sometimes you can find them for less on sale. I don't use stock paper filters- I use a PRM Jet Stream intake system with an internal cone-shaped cleanable, non-disposable high-flow filter.

Red-Bull-Fit,
Where do you live? Here in the USA, we can still get these filters for way less than $100. Here are just a few that I found for the GD3, Google (http://www.google.com/products?q=33-2359&scoring=p):
THMotorsports (http://thmotorsports.com/kn_/kn_dropin_filter_replacement_highflow_air_filter/332359/i-136042.aspx?googlebase=33-2359-03)

Wow! I would buy from the last site you listed just 'cuz of the weird name. I like it! But like I told the OP- $35.00 is the general range for the K&N drop-in. He must live in Tibet, or some place equally hard to ship to.

Guessing from your name I would have to guess Thailand home of red bull. And that is where I got mine for about $30.00. If I'm right let me know and I will tell you where I got mine and it should be EVEN CHEAPER as the dollar has sunk against the baht.

I know, I hear people not having fun with K&N drop in filters... well, not even with their intake... I miss hearing "Hoosh!" noise after I turn off the engine tho :p

Hi .. first post here .. This a great forum! http://www.hondafitforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif.. I bought my daughter an 08 Fit Sport 5-speed.. WOW what a nice car! My wife and I are now considering replacing our Impala Land Cruiser for one too.
Regarding K&N and other re-usable filters you may want to checkout the report in the following link. Reusable oiled Gauze or Foam filters have the advantage of being re-usable and may flow a little better but they don't trap as much dirt as a paper filter..
ISO 5011 Air Filter Test (http://home.roadrunner.com/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm)
Yesterday I replaced all fluids and Filters .. Except for the tight access to block coolant drain plug I found the Fit quite easy work on. :)

Welcome to our forums! You made a good buy for your daughter. Thanks for the reminder on high-flow after-market filters vs. stock paper ones. This has been a topic of discussion in all car forums for years. Those who want performance don't care, and those who know engines will change their oil more often, but we appreciate your warning and posting the link.

I had already read the air filter comparison or another one that had the same outcome. It has me thinking about getting some foam filtering material to wrap my K&N cloth filter when the dust is bad here.... There is a lot of very fine sand and dust that I have to drive across whenever I leave my place and as a precaution I frequently oil my filter and apply grease on the intake pipe that I check frequently for any kind of sand or dust accumulation and so far there has been none that is visible or can be felt....

Dee, K&N sells "Pre-Filter" bags made of fine mesh synthetic cloth for that purpose. It fastens around the regular filter like a baggie and it ties around the inlet tube at the base of the filter. Made specifically for off-road and dusty conditions.

For VillageIdiot and others who are interested, I used the wrong terminology in the above comment about K&N. These things work as pre-filters, but K&N calls them "Filter Wraps" and they come in a huge number of shapes and sizes. On the K&N web site, look at the list on the left side of the home page and click on "Order filters by size". The wraps are about 2/3 down in the list of filter sizes.

Another thing to do for piece of mind is a UOA (used oil analysis) at your next oil change - The Si (silicon/dirt) level in ppm is a good indicator of air filter performance - also checks wear metals, additives, presence of fuel, and coolant.. (Click Here for more info) (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/whatisoilanalysis.htm) I run a UOA at every oil change on my Duramax Diesel and about every third oil change on my cars .. helped me find an intake leak (elevated Si) on my previous truck.
