The Fit approaches 50K. Will be driving from Fairbanks down the Oregon Coast to the Redwoods and back the last two weeks of April. Will report when I get back.

If you let me know when you are here, I'll meet you and buy lunch!

Well, "going to the Redwoods" is just a little vague. I have 150' tall redwoods in my back yard. My area is about 1 hour's drive sough of San Francisco. If you come here, I can show you the still living redwood tree that the 19th. century explorer Col John C. Fremont lived INSIDE OF for one winter during his blazing of a westward route across the country. It is in the Henry Cowell State Redwoods park in the town of Felton, CA.
If you don't get this far south, you will still have a great trip. Good Luck!!!!

...now that's impressive. One day when I am retired and time will not be an issue (I'd love to rush it but don't need to get any closer to the grave today) I would love to cruise down that way. My little lady has us on a tight itinerary that includes two days communing with the big twigs at Crescent City and then straight to Ashland. Thanks for the GDM hospitality!

Again, have a good and safe trip. You will love Ashland, OR. Watch out for tsunamis in Crescent City. Sorry that we'll miss you. And Fremont's tree will still be here next trip. It is still living, and the smoke ventilation hole that he chopped in the side of it healed over, but is still visible after over 150 years.
