I have NEVER really liked ANY pancake/waffle mix that I have ever bought in a store, until now. I found a new brand in our local grocery store (Nob Hill), and here is the web site for the pancake mix manufacturer. This is GREAT stuff, and it's even very healthy. Try it- you'll thank me.:D

I love pancakes. Mine always came out with little like dots on them not nice and brown all over the surface like on the box. I had been following instructions on the box and using a bit of butter in the pan.

So I had a light bulb moment and thought teflon pan why not and tried some with a hotish dry pan and now they come out perfect just like on the box photo.

Has anyone tired the pancakes in a can mix? Saw it on TV some guy has invented a spray can with mix in it and it comes out like whipped cream or something and it has taken off according to the web. It is convenient because it keeps in the icebox and you only use what you need and the rest you can save for another time.

Yep, I tried the aerosol pancakes. My opinion was that they cost too much for a finished product that lacked flavor and character. They were being sold in a three-pack at Costco about 1-1/2 years ago. The batter comes out of the can under a lot of pressure, and that makes it very hard to control the size of the pancake.

As in my previous post, the "Kodiakcakes Frontier Flapjacks and Waffles Mix" is the very best I have ever tasted. If you make the effort to find a store local to you that carries this, after looking it up on their web site, you won't regret it. Obviously, that suggestion is addressed to people not living in Asia. But this WILL fit in a suitcase, John.

Your burn marks are from the butter- butter has a very low burning point. Cooking temp. for pancakes is around 375 deg. F. Butter burns at around 260-280. A light coating of safflower, grape seed, or canola oil needs 400 deg. F. to burn/smoke. BTW, olive oil has a low burn/smoke point also.

Just made some more today with my dry teflon pan method and they came out perfect looking just like the picture on the box. But I had a profound thought while eating them....... pancakes are just an excuse to eat maple syrup .... I mean just try eating them dry OK but not too good. Then slather them with syrup UUUUMMMM much better. Which would you rather a bunch of dry pancakes or sipping maple syrup from the bottle?

Of those two extremes, I would pick the dry pancakes of the brand that I recommended. But, after all, I am a Diabetic. I do use real maple syrup, but within reason (not drinking it from the bottle). I can see how chugging maple syrup might be a temptation for anyone who doesn't have to use insulin though. One of the best natural foods!

I checked out the link and found that some Kroger stores have Kodiak products so I will be on the lookout for it.... The first picture of that beautiful stack of pan cakes made me hungry.

Some look good but most would never be on my list of 10 best. Too many weirdo things chefs like to try in these. My vote would be for the plain old NY lake Plasid ones.

Made me hungry.........http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/americas-best-pancakes/2

That is just too much cholesterol for me to indulge in more than once or twice a year, but I can't tell my doctor..... She would figure it out from my blood work anyway.

Just tried some cornbread mix in a bag from Betty Crocker. 3 thumbs up. Very easy to make and only cooks for 15 minutes. Very tasty.

Watching a cooking show with a guy from spain cooking pancakes. The strange thing is he put OLIVE OIL, just a bit like a tablespoon, into his batter said it works great and makes the pancakes a bit more moist. Anybody ever try this?

Back for some great pancake advice. Normally I make the pancake batter caveman men style and just mix the ingredients with a spoon and get most of the lumps. Today I was running late for some reason so I asked Mrs. claymore for a hand and would she mix the batter while I got the pan out and heated.

So being a woman she said "where is the whisk" and I said we don't need no stinking whisk and she gave me "the look" wives reserve for stupid husband moves and went and got the whisk and whipped the batter to a fare thee well and it was nice an smooth with small bubbles mixed in.

Well I have to say the pancakes beaten like that came out GREAT nice and fluffy and even had a finished golden color that was a lighter shade than normal.

So when you make your batter beat it with a whisk or egg beater until it's got small air bubbles and your pancakes come out much better than beat it with a spoon caveman style.

Surprise!! Cavemen became extinct for a reason. Reason? Their food and their cooking skills sucked. The successive generations with more brains and more skills were issued by the women.

Not to clog up the meet thread I will post this here. While on the meet thread they said they were going to order pancakes so I decided to make some of my own in tribute since I can't make the meet.

And they were weird. Used my normal in the box mix and same pan and stove setting but this time Mrs. claymore is on a health kick and only had low fat milk (Boooooo).

So I mixed it up as normal except for low fat milk. The batter looked the same but when cooking the center of the cooking pancake puffed up like bagged popcorn blowing up or a mini domed stadium. Finally just bapped it with the pancake flipper and it stayed down.

They tasted fine but I have never seen the center bulge up like that before.

I have never seen a center of a pancake do that either.

Ha watching "tyler" the cook making pancakes on a cooking show and he eats them with BACON just like me. :p He said the combo of sweet pancakes with maple syrup and salty bacon is a match made in heaven.... I agree 100% :p
