Hi guys,

I wanna know what the lightest wheel and tire combo is, 16" price is not really an issue, but I need an all season tire as this is WI and winter sucks here. Lightest wheels I could find are enkei's at 13.7 lbs? I'll be getting these next summer prob.

posted this on that other forum, but I didn't get any answers there, I'm sure no one there knows..

The Enkei Racing series is the lightest by Enkei and of them the RPF1 is the lightest in 15" and the lightest that I found.... The Continental Conti Pro Contact is an all weather performance touring tire and the lightest tire that I found.... I checked but Tire Rack didn't list the weight of the RPF1 wheel in 16'' but the 15"X7" weighs 9.5 lbs.

yeah, the 16" ones are 13.7 lbs, still a big improvment from the stock sports. I was thinking of getting some volks, but I can't find any weight stats on any of the sites..

Hey fareastgq,

I was looking into doing something similar...getting some lightweight wheels for my GD3 that is. Anyway, I Googled this site:
Good-Win Racing (http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Parts/Miata/Wheels-Tires.html)

Fellow member Bap sent me to this site. I know you wanted 16", but check out these 6U rims just FYI:

Cheers.

BTW-I was thinking of going to 14" wheels for my "Daily Driver." If anyone knows if this will, or will not work, please comment! Anyway, here is my tentative plan.

Kosei K1 TS 14X6, 38 offset:
9.3 lb. Wheels (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=TS001LG&wheelMake=Kosei&wheelModel=K1+TS&wheelFinish=Light+Grey+Painted&showRear=no&autoMake=Honda&autoModel=Fit&autoYear=2007&autoModClar=&filterSize=All&filterFinish=All&filterSpecial=false&filterBrand=Kosei&filterNew=All&sort=Price)

Shod with 195/45R14 Toyo Proxes T1R Tires:
15 lb. Tires (http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/toyo-proxes-t1r-tire-19545r14-77v-p-47850.html?osCsid=hv2ile5ediun1ggq17r3tcfd95)

Those 6u look pretty good and unlike some would be easy to clean with all that open space.

It'll work pretty well I think.... The tire width in inches is 7.677" side wall hight 3.45", diameter 20.909" and circumference of 65.6877"..... The 6' wide rim is going to pull the bead of the tire in 0.8385 on each side of the tire in relation to tire width which will provide a little extra protection for the rim from curb damage that you wouldn't have with a wider rim.... It will drop you 0.77" lower than stock. and you will travel 7.966" less per tire rotation so the speedometer will read faster than your actual speed, but you will have a major improvement in acceleration and wider stance without any worry of rubbing except maybe a little bit on the front while turning sharply on a bumpy road...... You might want to look into getting a good seat cushion to go with them though..... Somebody is sure to comment on how ugly the 0.77" additional gap between the top of the tire and wheel well is, how you need to lower it and you need wider rims for more tire stretch.
...... Be sure to avoid pot holes and armadillos.

sigh... I love the weight of these rims... too bad they are 6.5 and not 7 width.

My blood pressure and pulse rate climbed when I looked at that price and quickly calculated that I could afford them.... My heart dropped into my stomach when I read that there were less than one available for sale..... I generally will favor function over form but those wheels have both and I must admit that the looks of it carries a lot of weight with me.

what kind of adjustments would I need to run a 6.5 instead of 7 wheel? + u know, they are 11 lbs!!! says the manufac at least..

It would be a bolt on as long as the wheel doesn't have too much offset that would cause clearance problems.... I have seen a lot of Fits in pictures with this wheel and a lot of people change wheels more often than their underwear.... The bolt pattern on the Fit is used on numerous other cars and you may find some used wheels like his on the for sale threads on one of numerous forums..... That wheel is forged alloy which is much stronger than cast aluminum wheels that would weigh the same.... If you are going to radically stiffen, drop your car, use lower aspect ratio sticky tires with less than 4" side walls and drive on less than perfect roads it might be worth the price to buy some of these new at the going price.... They are a hot and desirable commodity for thieves to turn a profit on so you might have trouble sleeping at night if your car isn't under a roof locked up when you are away from it.... I would sock away some cash and try to find some used ones if they are what you want.... It is my opinion that reducing unsprung weight and rotating mass is the best thing you can spend your money on to improve the performance of a car with a small engine.... I also think that there is nothing wrong with the stock size tires on the sport model Fits even if you are running a lot of boost.

I see, well, since those ssr's are a pipe dream now, I think I'll pick these up prob. http://www.enkei.com/pf01.html, unless I can find those ssr's for the same price. I'm actually more interested in fuel econo and making the car look good/less wear and tear. only mods I am gonna do to the car are Takeda intake, , wheels, HID kit, rear smoked LEDs, maybe a valvue the rest I will keep the same.

I looked at the link you provided and like the looks of that wheel a lot better... After looking at the weight I see that they are 2.5 lbs heavier but probably stronger and still 4.9 lbs. lighter than stock.... I guess I am a little bit eccentric (some would say that is an understatement) but I am willing to sacrifice eye appeal for all of the benefits that are achieved by lightening the load at the end of the axles.... If I was wanting to improve the looks I wouldn't be enjoying driving my car as much as I do now.... I think that it is a shock to people that an old man drives a hotted up little car with black wheels, louvered hood and whirring noises coming from the super charger under the hood but it pleases me and that is what counts..... Whatever you decide to do think it out, be true to yourself and do what you want.... It's your car and you are the one that has to live with it.

another question I had was, although I would love 11lb wheels, are they gonna stand up to everyday use? ie bend etc... if not I would rather go with the enkeis

I have only seen one picture of a 9.5 lb. RPF1 that was damaged.... The rim bent very badly after hitting a terrible pot hole that probably would have destroyed a stock steel truck wheel with 235-75 15" tires and probably damaged the suspension as well..... I have had them on my car for 9 months and drive much faster than most people on rural roads using 195-55-15" tires that with no problems and feel that any tire with a side wall height of 4 inches or more would be safe with the wheels you are looking at and anything less would require a little more caution when driving on bad roads where there are pot holes..... I would rather have to replace a wheel and tire than have to replace and repair a damaged suspension and strut tower.....
