I own a 2003 Honda Jazz ISDI from South Africa.

My aircon is giving me problems. When i switch it on the compressor does kick in as i can see the revs drop and hear it. But it does not blow out cold air. Then if I drive it goes cold for a minute or two then blows out normal air for a minute or two and then goes cold for a minute or two and so it goes on the whole time.

I took it to Honda and they sent the Jazz to an audio and air "specialist" and they said I have to replace the Compressor Pump and Condensor as the are both faulty. It does not sound right to me. I am thinking of getting a second opinion as it cost an arm and a leg to get them replaced. R7500.00 thats about 750 US dollar!

Has anyone had this problem before! Before this problem started I sometimes could hear the radiator fan being noisy when the aircon was on for a long time. almost like a bearing that was worn! If the car idles with the aircon on it doesn't blow out cold air but as soon as you drive, esp on the freeway, it goes cold-normal-cold-normal-cold-normal.

With your intermittent cold, then warm, then cold air again, at the very least it sounds as if you have lost some or a lot of your refrigerant in the system. Since the refrigerant also carries the lubrication for the internal parts of the compressor, it is likely that the compressor is near the point of failure. This process probably started with a small leak in the condenser, maybe from rock impact, maybe just from age.

I'm sorry to be full of bad news, and I could be wrong. But I don't think that your dealer is giving you bad advice.

And thanks for joining our forums from such a long distance!

Thanx for the advice. What you saying makes sense. My father inlaw had a stone hit his aircon pipe on his car a while ago and his shortterm insurance paid for it. I'll find out tomorow, hopefully mine will also pay for the damage. Thanx for the interesting forum!

sushi,
We will be interested in the results your dealership visit. I hope the best for you, but I think that you are about to need some expensive repairs.

P.s. Sorry to send you to an inferior forum, but the suggestions in this thread will probably work on your car even though my car in the thread was an '07 Fit Sport.
