For me and my Fit. I have gotten 38 pretty consistently, but over the weekend, I finally broke over the 40 MPG barrier. I went 377.6 Miles on 9.32 gallons. I got 40.5 MPG Woooo hooo!

How many miles on the odo. Jeff? I have seen a lot of posts on other forums that seem to give back-up to the claim that mileage improves as the engine gains miles. So far, at only 4K on my '09 with zero long highway trips, I can only average about 30-32 mpg. (but it doesn't bother me- for city driving, that ain't bad). I am guessing that you have at least 30-40K on your car (?).

I'm at just about 29k miles. My GF was teasing me about driving like a grampa, but was impressed when I showed her the results. I didn't use any of the pulse and glide techniques, just low speeds and cruise control for most of the tank.

Wow! If it takes 25-30K to achieve the ultimate in gas mileage, based on my limited need to drive, it's going to take me another 5-6 years to see my best fuel economy (because I'm not about to coast downhill in neutral or p&g either!).

I'm not sure how much of it is the car breaking in, and how much of it was the fact that I didn't get in a hurry at all that tank and kept it at 65 or under. I've gotten 38 and 39 MPG on many occasions, but I usually get bored driving slowly and and do some extended higher speed time. This tank had almost 100% highway driving, which helped a lot. I filled up on Friday and had to refill by Monday. Since I haven't taken the Fit on any long trips down to So Cal or anything like that, that is the shortest time period I've had for a tank in the Fit.

Based on many of the nut-case hyper-miler posts, total break-in supposedly does take quite a lot of miles (that doesn't mean those posts are right, though). My "city" driving is done in mountains, and I simply CANNOT just putter along at slow speeds. With what I consider to be the "killer" intake and exhaust, I am always making my car sing to me. So, my driving style could be considered to be "abusive", and my mileage is great under those circumstances.
When my Progress RSB gets here, my mileage may suffer a little more, and I will be at risk for a speeding ticket too, at least for the first month or so.
But congratulations on the good mileage! I am just about ready for my first oil change, and will begin using Amsoil synthetic oil. My mileage did go up with my '07 Sport after beginning the use of Amsoil.

With the deceleration fuel cut off, you are actually more efficient leaving it in gear, than putting it in neutral, unless you go nutso and shut off the motor while driving. That time we went over Hamilton, I got about the same mileage I'd been getting. Hamilton was mostly full throttle, coasting or hard on the brakes.
