View Full Version : Confused about oil change interval/use of synthetic

I see my new fit tells me when to get my oil changed. I assume it does this by mileage/speed/stop-go. Right now, at 1,000 miles, it shows 90%...which will probably end up needing a change at 5K miles.
What confuses me is that I purchased a 5/100,000 mile drivetrain warranty, and now I realize that even if I switch to synthetic oil that I will have to comply with factory change intervals to keep my warranty in force.
I am confused as to how this works.
Thanks,
Grampa

IMO I would just change the oil every 5k miles, plus do not forget that with the Fit you will need to reset the "Hondas' Maintenance Minder." I'm unsure that the USDM Fit would have it (Don't have my fit yet so I wouldn't know yet. http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4199404.html the link shows the maintenance minder) However, I do recommend saving all your oil and filters receipts so they (dealerships) would not void the warranty. Again sorry for giving the useless info with the earlier post.

Bent4God,
You and I had the same quest going here. What have you found? I'm coming up on 7,500 miles and was thinking of Mobil 1, viscosity?, where to have it done?, how to update the oil change gauge (or does it update itself?), and wondered how it 'reads' the oil.
Can you share any info?
Many Thanks!

We have a few customers with the FIT, and we have just done 2 of them with the ENEOS Fully Synthetic 5w-20 Performance oil. We changed one 3600 miles and the other @ 8000, the ENEOS oil claims their oil is good for 10K+ but we only recommend 8-10K before changing it again. As for the Factory maintenance light that is fixed to go on at a given millage and has no way to calculate for different oil requirements. I hope this was a help!!

i would change your oil and oil filter every 5,000 miles....and to make sure that the manufacture's warranty and the warranty you bought isn't void, bring your honda to the dealership for the oil/filter changes and tire rotations...my dealership only charges $36.00 for oil and oil filter change plus tire rotation..they also vaccuum out the car and check all the hoses, fluids, lube (if necessary), etc. i use to own a 2003 Civic and brought it to the dealer every 5,000 miles and was never charged extra or told i needed something extra done when there was nothing wrong with it..some dealers will try to get you to change your transmission fluid at 30,000 miles but you don't have to..not till 60,000 miles
