Hi I live in Sartell, MN and I am sold on the Fit. I was wondering what the dimension difference from the 08 to the 09 models. I know the 09's are like 2 inches longer (so I hear) but I also hear that the 09's are wider then the 08's. Anyone know how many inches wider?
What are the main differences in the two years?
Thanks

I'm sorry that I do not have measurements to give you- while I owned my '07 (same dimensions as '08) Fit Sport, I didn't think that I would need to save measurements. Now that it is gone (wrecked), I wish that I still had comparative dimensions with my new '09.
The new Fit is completely different from the GD3 design ('07 & '08). The new Fit has a shorter hood, but a dash that is twice as deep, more head room, more shoulder room, a much larger windshield. I may not be remembering correctly, but it seems to me that the cargo area floor behind the rear seat backs was slightly larger on the '07 than on the new one.
The "magic seats" are not as magic as they used to be. When you fold the rear seatbacks down to make a flat floor, the GD3's required that you move the front seats forward so that the rear headrests could be fit underneath the front seats as you moved them back into their original position. To make this easier, the front seats have a small lever on the outside edge at about shoulder level. You just pull that lever, and the whole front seat could be shoved forward with one hand. Since the rear headrests do not go under the front seats on the new Fits, the levers are now missing for easy movement of the front seats.
Generally, the new Fit just feels larger and more spacious. That's both good and bad at the same time. The "go kart" feel of the GD3's is gone, and the GE8 now feels bigger than it actually is. I don't dislike my '09, but would have bought a new '08 if there had been any available in a 300 mile radius when I needed to replace my wrecked '07. If you have never owned a Fit before, these differences won't bother you as much as they bother me.

I'll take your word for most of your specs, but both generations of Fits have timing chains, not belts.
