I just ordered for our rides HID kits, i know they work fine in my Legacy GTs projectors (factory option) but i have never seen a Fit with them. Anyone out there have them? If so, do the factory headlamps work ok with the higher heat bulbs? Any advise on where to mount the ballists (haven't looked yet, i'm lazy like that)?
Should have probably looked into this before i ordered it, but those are the breaks...

They work fine. Most people mount the ballasts along the frame after taking out the inner wheel splash guards for access then you can see there is plenty of room for them.

you got em on yours? If so, where did you mount the ballists? I took a look and unfortunately think the entire headlamps need to come out (bumper as well).

I don't have them on mine but have seen DIYs on other sites. Start by taking the front bumper section off, then you have plenty of room to work. The ballasts I have seen were mounted between the headlight housing and the frame. With the bumper off you can see that there is access to the back of the headlight housing so you can pull out the old bulbs and put the new ones in without taking off the whole headlight housing. You may have to loosen the front part of the inner plastic fender guard for more access, just take out the plastic clips on the front half and let it hang down.

If anyone runs into a DIY for this let me know.

You won't like the quality of people there (a lot of illiterate, dimwit show-offs) but there are some worthwhile DIY's including HID's (lots of threads), on www.fitfreak.net.
I apologize in advance if you get offended by the idiots while you are on that site.

I'd really be interested in finding out how much this would cost and i would really like to do it myself if possible. What is the going rate right now?

Prices are all over the map, with as many posts "Do this, do this!!" as there are "No, No, don't do it- you'll just blind other drivers and won't see that much better anyway". The accurate tech advice seems to be that HID bulbs are meant for use in projector style headlights, and the Fit lights are designed for halogen bulbs- therefor don't work very well for HID bulbs. There are dozens of DIY's for installation, and dozens of vendors and brand reviews on fitfreak.net (but read the post above yours so you'll know what to expect on that site). Also, there are at least 6 HID vendors on Ebay.
