i was at Advance Auto Parts and picked up a few of their car tip pamphlets...one of them was on fuel filters...it said that fuel filters should be replaced every 10,000-15,000 miles..i have never heard of this!! what are your opinions?

10-15,000 miles is pushing it. But it's not a bad idea. Depending on how you drive, what kind of fuel you're putting into your car. Since I bought this car brand new and I know every drop of gas that has been put into it. My wife and I only put certain brands into it. Phillips 66, Shell, Marathon and that's really about it. I use these to fill up my truck too because it's tuned to run 93 octane. Clean gas is definately worth passing up the station that sells if for 5 cents cheaper.

i never buy gas from those cheap gas stations, or those huge gas stations that have like 20 or more pumps..i only use Chevron or Texaco because they both use Techron and both are approved by Honda.
with my 2003 Civic, i noticed a difference between regular and premium gas...with regular gas, there was more hesitation, and at idle the steering wheel would vibrate..
when i changed to premium gas, i had no hesitation..and the vibration (rough idle) felt through the steering wheel stopped.
ever since i bought my new Fit in March, i always use premium gas..even though i know regular gas would work fine...i figure that using premium gas only costs me an extra one or two bucks everytime i fill up, so it's not that big of a deal...it's worth the extra money to know i am using the best there is

thanks...it would make sense that Advanced Auto Parts would make a phamplet saying you have to change out your fuel filter more often...they make money off that

I'm at a point now where I'll split my gas between Chevron and Race Trac. whenever I use Race Trac, my car has idling issues...it handles really rough, like you mentioned (that vibration...the whole car would basically pulse). The moment I put Chevron in, the idling issues would stop. I can't always afford Techron though. ><

lets say the gas at Race-Trac is $4 a gallon for regular gas and Chevron is $4.10 for a gallon...naturally a lot of people will go to Race-Trac because of the 10 cents difference.
a Honda Fit only holds 10.8 gallons of gas, so at Race-Trac you spend about
$44 dollars to fill your tank, if it's completely empty.
and at Chevron you will spend about $45.10 to fill up your tank
so your actually only spending $1.10 more for quality gas!!!!!
for me, spending one to two bucks extra is always worth knowing that i am not using inferior gas in my car. that is an average of 4-8 bucks a month considering the fact you only fill up your car once a week. i only fill up my Fit once every 8-10 days covering 300-350 miles.
i always tell people that if you really care about your car, take the time out to figure how much it is extra for the best gas...usually they find it is only an extra few bucks every fill up, so it is worth it in my opinion.

oh, I agree, it's worth it.

but it doesn't change my situation - you're talking to someone so cheap they're on the ramen diet.

would it be worth it to shell out more money for a more nutritious lunch everday? yes! ...but do I? no...

if you guys can afford to, I strongly suggest you use Techron or some other superior gas of your choice. I simply can't always.

i can be cheap too, but i figure that spending money now to take good care of my car will cost me less in the long run...because it is always too expensive to fix or replace something once it has been damaged.

The Helm manual says to replace the fuel filter when the fuel system pressure drops below a certain value. I don't have fuel system pressure monitoring equipment and don't plan to purchase it. We are talking about purchasing a special tool and removing the center console and pulling the unit out of the fuel tank. According to the manual it doesn't look like rocket science, but I sure wouldn't do it very often. I guess I'll put it on the list for the 100K service I plan to do; replacing the alternator and belt, checking valve lash and replacing the spark plugs.

Good idea but don't forget your pcv valve if you haven't done it yet.

The car has 33K now, how often does a PCV valve need replacing?
