If you own a house, you WILL NEED a good ladder (or two or three) assuming that you will be doing your own repairs and improvements.
For members in the U.S, you have probably seen infomercials on the "Little Giant" ladders. I just invested in one of them.
Here's what you should know- if you can afford the price, they are well worth the money as far as quality and performance. They have a lifetime warranty. You can buy them from Home Depot, like I did, but the price directly from the manufacturer is only a couple of dollars more than the H.D. or Lowe's price. By buying direct, you save your state sales tax, and shipping is still free either from Lowes, Home Depot. or the Little Giant Ladder Co. I could have saved about $30.00 by buying direct form Little Giant. That's what I get for being a loyal Home Depot customer. Still a good investment though.
These ladders are made in Utah- it is surprising how many great products come from manufacturers in that state, from guns, to folding tables, to exhaust systems, to ladders. Little Giant ladders are made from either aluminum, as mine is, or fiberglass.
Be sure of your needs- prices vary greatly depending on size. I bought the 26 foot Type 1A ladder (the length when both ladders are joined together as an extension ladder). You may not need that size. If not, the price is cheaper
What I bought was two A-frame ladders nested together. I wanted the ability to make two ladders into a scaffold, with a 6-or-8-foot-long 2" X 12" plank set between the two A-frames for use in painting my house. That means chipping off old paint and spraying on new paint, and-or replacing siding. The width of ths smaller A-frame steps is 12", and the width of a 2 X 12 is 11-1/2". The weight capacity of the ladder set is 300 pounds. The company sells lesser capacity ladders of 250 pounds capacity, but I would recommend that you buy the strongest available. The price difference isn't enough to sway you to the cheaper one.
It's a good thing that this set comes with wheels on one end. The two-ladder set that I bought weighs 68 pounds. I can carry it under one arm, but it is much easier to roll it where I want it.
This is a one-time investment that will last forever. In uncertain times, when you have to spend money, spend it on things that are worthwhile, and worth the money. If you own a home, you already know that.
Little Giant Ladders = worth the money. Bullet proof.:)
