You can't "shave" a porcupine, though their quills (not needles) are actually hair that is hollow, very strong, with ends that are sharp and barbed. The man in the video is wearing gloves almost certainly with kevlar palms, and leather chaps, maybe with snake-proof boots underneath. The quills are the animal's unique and specialized protection mechanism. People think that they can "shoot" quills, but they can't. The release of the quills is automatic, and only happens under attack and fear. You didn't see any quills in the guy's gloves or chaps.

Predators learn lessons from porcupines and skunks the hard way. My Siberian Husky and Wolf Hybrid have needed anti-skunk baths four times over the last year. It is just wonderful that we don't have porcupines around here too. But I'll bet that even after a muzzle full of quills, my predators would still attack anything at all that invades their yard other than people. "Stay out of my yard or you're lunch!".
